From 2-4 October 2020
The heroes of the COVID-19 era include those who fed us while we quarantined, put them back on the shelves, increased sales, and gave us food during delivery. In the early days of the pandemic, hundreds of grocery stores in the East Coast state were hit, and ShopRite played the role of the organizer of ShopRite Classic in the shadow of Atlantic City this week, once again cheering for the community.
As normalcy is slowly and carefully returning, sports are playing its role. Although ShopRite Classic has no audience, it satisfies the appetite of golf enthusiasts by increasing from 54 holes to 72 holes. All 120 players in these four days will compete for $1.3 million on the Golf Channel. The Competition will start from 2-4 October 2020 at Bay Course - Galloway NJ.
The tournament field includes Nelly Korda, Brooke Henderson, and defending ShopRite champion Lexi Thompson. This year also the other two professional champions Sophia Popov, Mirim Lee, and last year's AIG champion Hinako Shibuno.
The tournament first played in 1986 as the Atlantic City Classic, and the winner of this event was Juli Inkster. Its top four winners were Inkster on both occasions, and Betsy King and Nancy Lopez were Hall of Fame winners.
ShopRite was launched in 1992. This event was interrupted by the three-year hit in 2007-09 when the event entitlement was given to another company. However, in 2010 Whan became an LPGA commissioner; he put ShopRite and the golf-enthusiastic Atlantic City market back on top. By 2023, both Seaview courses and ShopRite will cooperate with the Eiger Marketing Group.
