The Ryder Cup is an annual men's golf competition between Europe and the United States. The first Ryder Cup took place in Worcester, Massachusetts, in 1927, at the Worcester Country Club. The Ryder Cup was initially contested by Great Britain, Ireland, and the United States, but in 1979, a decision was made to add continental Europe to the competition. Following a long period of American dominance, Europe has gained the upper hand in head-to-head rivalries since 1979.

Ryder Cup's Format

The current Ryder Cup match play format includes teams with 12 players. The competition consists of 28 matches, each lasting 18 holes and taking place from Friday through Sunday. Each match's winner earns one point for their team and a tie results in a half-point for each team. On Sunday, the team with the most total points will fight for the Ryder Cup trophy and the honor for the next two years.
