The Malaysian Open golf competition will return to the Asian Tour in 2024, following a four-year break. The tournament will take place at the Kota Permai Golf and Country Club in Shah Alam from February 15–18, 2024. There will be 144 players in the competition, and the total prize money will be the same as it was in the 2020 edition, which was US$1 million (RM4.63 million). In 2020, American Trevor Simsby defeated Australian Andrew Dodt and American Jarin Todd and won the event title.

The Malaysian Open was one of just four competitions to conclude in the first quarter before the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020. The Malaysian Open will be the second major golf event following the Maybank LPGA Championship.

Although the Malaysian Open has a long history dating back to 1962, the years 1999–2015 are particularly noteworthy because the European Tour also officially sanctioned the event. Numerous elite athletes, including former world No. 1s Lee Westwood, Vijay Singh, and Louis Oosthuizen, have won this event.

In 1994, P. Gunasegaran, who passed away, finished second at the Royal Selangor Golf Club, which was the best result ever by a Malaysian.
