After the Oman Open was postponed, the European Tour lost its first game in the 2021 schedule due to the coronavirus pandemic. The tournament was held in Muscat from March 4th to 7th, it was supposed to be the first leg of a second Middle East swing, but it was limited to Qatar Masters, which will take place from 11-14 March.

The tour said the decision was made after the Oman government announced that, stop all gatherings, international events, and sporting events in the country immediately.

Organizers are considering the possibility of rescheduling the game, but "there is no clear plan at this time."
The Oman Open played two times as the main tournament last year, it was the penultimate event before the Covid-19 lockdown.

Many competitions were subsequently canceled, including the 149th Open Championship at Royal St. George, which is now scheduled to take place in July.
